In Grayson/Carroll Counties , Virginia, the name was Duril and Durnel, never the other vastriations.

Eli, son of John Durnil and Diannah Jennings came to Carroll County Missouri and was married to Lavina Eskue. He was age 45 in 1860, 54 on the 1870 Carrill, Mo censuas.

One Durnil came to Carroll, Mo in as wagon train in 1836 with related Jennigs, Hamilton, Henson families. I am not sure if this was Eli or a brother. Eli MIGHT have come later. Some were later in Lawrence County, Mo.

Henderson B. Durnal (by 1860 Carroll census) was likely a cousin to Eli and a son of a brother to John Durnel, my ancestor who stayed in Grayson County, Va.

Most of John's brothers born ca 1780-1793 went to Washington County, Indiana (Levi, Aaron, Joseph, James).

Brother William died in Campaign County, Ill.

The only other one was an older Eli, born ca 1786, who married Beady Chasnce. He would seem to be the most likely father for Henderson. (no proof yet).

Grayson became a county in 1792 so the older ones above were likely born in Montgomery County, Va.
