Hi Ellen: I was very interested in your message. My grandfather was born Joseph Durnin but was later adopted and his name was Joseph Fleming. His parents were Patrick and Ellen (Carr) Durnin who came over from Ireland and lived in South Boston. They left a child in Ireland (Gertrude, I think) who they never sent for. They had 3 more children Joseph (my grandfather) born in l884, Nellie (Eleanor) born in l886 and Rose in l888. The 3 children were placed in "The Home for Little Wanderers" in Jamaica Plain. I believe the Mother had died and Patrick was a drinker. I never knew if the girls were adopted by someone else. I know that Nellie married a man named George Lundgren and Rose married someone named LeBlanc and lived in Lowell. My grandfather married Margaret Barry and they lived in Everett. He worked for the MTA. I'd love to hear from you and anything else you may be able to add.
