Thanks for the reply to my message.I went to the NE Genealogical Society in Boston the summer of 1992 and told them I was looking for information on Durrell.(My father had registered my birth in 1939 and wanted to register his first grandchild's birth, but they no longer do that ... too many Durrells now!)They told me I was in luck since the Society had done 3 or 4 issues of their quarterly Journal on the Durrell's the previous year.So I just Zeroxed the line I was from. The only name I remember is Newman.I am in Florida for the winter and do not have access to the information with me now.I'm sure they got the information from the book you mentioned.I think I read that he paid someone to do all the research and then had it published. If you write to the NE Genealogical Society and give them the name, I'm sure they will send you the issues pertinent to the Durrell family.Gerald Durrell is/was a naturalist and has a zoo on the Isle of Jersey.Lawrence Durrell is/was the writer and is/was living in Greece. My cousin once lived in No. Conway, NH and belonged to an Episcopal church there.A Mary Durrell was also a member. She was origionally from PA and her father was a minister.I don't think she was married.Anyway, she told my cousin that there were 3 Durrell brothers who migrated from the Channel Islands. One went to Australia, one to Maine and one to NH.I don't know where she got her information but my cousin said she had a strong resemblence to my father and Lawrence Durrell looks a lot like my father did also.Supposedly, Gerald bought the "Durrell" family homestead on the Isle of Jersey and restored it.All of this could be just family stories passed down. One of the ones in my family was that one of the first Durrell's was married to an Indian. But I think that is an offshoot of the story that the wife of Philip or one of his sons was taken prisoner by the Indians. That was in the Journal article. The only information I have that is legitimate is from the Journal articles.Did you know the NGS is having their meeting in Providence this May/June?I will be i RI then and plan to go.I hope to learn lots of stuff since I'm just a beginner at this. What line are you from? I understand there are lots of Durrell's in the Channel Islands...Daureen
