I am not certain but as I recall the oral history was that Duke was Native American. My uncle Dane served with the the division which was called the fighting thunderbirds, I believe it was the 45th, Oklahoma. At the time he was killed he was with the 17th airborne. My uncle was a golden gloves boxer and boxed for the National Guard division also. Evidently my father looked up to this individual as a friend of his brother and my brother is named for him. Neysa
