The whole sept thing with the Ross I find a bit of a non starter as my relatives fought with the Ogily's of Airlie and lived in Kirriemuir since the early 1600's
All the records show that the Duthies lived as far Northas Elgin in the 1500's and as far South as Dunblaneand there seems to be only one or 2 references to any others but not in around Inverness , Ross or Sutherland
I believe someone in the 1800's took a look at the name the connection with Tain and came to a wrong conclusion.
As the name means from the Gaelic " The Son of the servant of St Duthac" it would make more sense that they were out spreading the word so to speak, and would have been close to Monastic sites ie the ones where we find them at are ,Elgin Fraserburgh Aberdeen Brechin Dunblane Coupar Angus Kirriemuir Perth Dunblane Culross and Alloa
There is no Duthie Tartan ,and I think that if we were to have one we should start our own society first to get a consensus of the colours to be used... and have some where that we can focus on ie Tain or Aberdeen , Loch Duich ... This should start a good discussion I think!
Remember also that the title does not denote the senior line of the family either so we should not fall in to any traps that way as we are lets face it A Family and NOT a clan
