I, too, am a Lost Duthie. My Grandfather, John Alfred Duthie, of Aberdeen, Scotland, came to Canada around the turn of the century. He was trained as an upholsterer and interior decorator but he always wanted to be an artist. He came to Canada, with his best friend, Walter Ross, walking champion of Scotland. John's sister, Edith Duthie, lived in Montreal. She passed away in North Vancouver, B. C., in the mid 1960s. She had trained as a seamstress in Aberdeen but she always wanted to be a school teacher. John and Edith's father was the head gardener at the Queen's estate/castle (I don't know the name)in the area of Aberdeen. This family is related to Robert Duthie who, if he is still alive, is in his 70s or 80s. I believe he is a cousin of James Alexander Duthie, my father. He used to live in Scotland but late in life he moved to England. My brother, the late Gordon James Duthie, born in 1952, was the last of my Grandfather's male line to come to Canada as far as we know. John Alfred Duthie had a brother in Aberdeen who was an engraver. Another brother, Douglas Duthie, was wealthy. My father, James Alexander Duthie, was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada in 1922 and served in Britain during WWII where he met his Uncle Doug. James worked for the Canadian government at the Vancouver Harbour Board, but he always wished he'd been a commercial artist. In order to keep the Duthie name, I named my son, Robert James Nelson.
Has there ever been a gathering of the Duthie "clan"?
