Long shot...trying to find out more about Elizabeth L. DUTY in hopes of finding out more about my LEONARD & BATEMAN LINES.
She is listed as living with Serena Ann BATEMAN in the 1850 US FEDERAL CENSUS for Ouachita Parish,LA, I feel she might be a niece to Serena.
Catharine or Catherine (BATEMAN)FIFE is my 3 G-Grandmother. I recently found out who her parents are. Catharine was born in about 1850s or so in Louisiana and died in 1915. She is buried in the Lone Cedar Cemetery (no grave marker) Her mother is Serena Ann LENARD and Serena was first married to Reuben LEONARD (most-likely a cousin),that marriage is documented in the Ouachita Parish Courthouse,LA Marriage Book A, page 67:
Serena Lenard & Reubin Leonard Sept 25, 1832. It is unknown what happened to Reubin. Serena then married a man known only as Mr. BATEMAN sometime before the 1850 US Federal Census for Ouachita Parish,LA, in this Census on Ln 29 it shows Serena Ann BATEMAN 32 LA as Head of Household (Dwelling#244 Household#254)and those living with her on lines 30-33. It does not list any type of occupation for her.Enumerated on 18 Oct 1850, Ward 8.
LN 30 is John Gilbert Leonard 11 LA; LN 31 is Nancy Leonard 6 LA; LN 32 Catharine Batman 10/12 LA; and LN 33 Elizabeth L. Duty 17 LA.
What happened to Catharine's father? What is his full name?
John & Nancy are apparently the children she had with Reuben. As far as Elizabeth L. Duty, I read somewhere that Serena had a sister that had married a man by the name of DUTY, so this could be a niece. I've been looking for Catharine's parents for years now and was so happy when I found them. Does anyone know any other information on the BATEMANS? Catharine's maternal grandparents are Jonas (Jonah) LENARD and Sarah PHARES, both born about 1790/99.
Welcome all inquires and corrections.
