Hello Tina My grandfather was born in a village called Rossmore, in Tipperary, in 1848, and, with his family, immigrated to southern Ontario, Canada that same year. There is a story that during the winter freeze-up he would travel to St. Louis, where he would meet up with a cousin, presumably named Dwyer, and the two of them would then board a paddlewheel steamer for New Orleans. The two of them were excellent card sharks, and would return home with their profits after a number of river trips. It was my father who would tell me this story, so I presume there is some truth to it. Do you know of any similiar story amongst any of your relatives? Paul Dwyer, Victoria, B.C.
