HELP! William Dye, TN and MS 1830s-40s??

I'm at a dead end looking for the parents of this William Dye. He was born about 1780, but likely not before 1780. He married a Sarah Griffis who was born in 1781 in Chatham County, NC. I don't know when they were married. Her family
moved to Lincoln County, TN, about 1800 or so. Wm & Sarah started having children before 1810. William bought land in Lincoln County in 1812. He also fought in the War of 1812 in a TN Militia. Likely kids' names were Thomas J, Walter J, Robert J, William Benton, Mary Ann and Sophia, the girls married into the Farrar and Coates families respectively. In 1837 William and Sarah moved to Marshall, MS. William died about 1844, and his heirs were named in a lawsuit that went to the MS State Supreme Ct, the Plaintiff being an Ebeneezer Kilpatrick. Thomas J Dye had married an Eleanor Cocke of Maury County, TN, in 1831. Even with all that information I cannot find which Dye family William belongs to, where he came from or anything. I have plausible leads for NJ, VA, NC and SC, but nothing definitive. The first official mention of him I find is purchasing that land in Lincoln County, TN in 1812. Help anyone???
