George Dyehouse, heir of an English family.He came to Colonial America in 1772, settling in Maryland.When the was broke out he espoused the America cause, serving Washington during seven years of conflict; four years as part of his life guars and three as a messenger, carrying information through British lines.
Mary Adams, who later became his wife, worked with him and "received dispatches from the hand of George Dyehouse, secreted in her clothing, she would find opportunity to complete his hazardous mission.
It was said that there was not a place on his body where one could place a hand without touch a scar from wounds suffered while passing the pickets.
George Dyehouse and his son Edward Dyehouse died a few days apart from wounds suffered at Fort Meigs, on the Maumee river in Ohio during the battle of Thames River.
One of Edward's daughters - Sarah Dyehouse married Elijah Carter, a decendant of the Carter family who were among the first settlers of Jamestown, VA.This Carter family descendents include President Jimmy Carter.
