Hi Chuck,
I'm actually only kin to Carter-Ammons line (who intermarried with the Jackson line in South Alabama), but notice that there are a lot of Dyess members listed in old family Bible, so I know there was a lot of intermarriage. I think Joshua Carter had so many children that he is kin to half of South Alabama. Do you have a copy of Bible pages? Just in case, I'll decipher a few Dyess names I see listed there:

John Hall Dyess is listed (dob March, 1827; married 6th Feb 1847) and what looks like Andy Loften Dyess, 4 Dec 1849. Katharine Dyess died 19 March 1856, or so Bible records. The printing is poor, so I might have a few characters off. There is also a Emaline born 1856 and a George Joseua Dyess and possibly a Laviena Dyess, 1857.I've tried to copy the pages (which I only own copies of) but the quality is so poor that I can't send them via email.

The Ammons are my blank wall, as I can trace James Henry Ammons (gggrandfather)to his father, John Ammons, born in Alabama, and then they dissolve into the SC without a trace. I was hoping to see what the Dyess family was up pre-1812 to see if the Ammons might have migrated "en family" as they used to do. I knew they lived in Steward County (the Carters, anyway) but the think the Ammons are Alabamans. In any case, my Ammons grannie claimed to be Creek Indian, so that is probably the brick wall I'm hitting: the NA one.

Anyway, if I can help or check on anything, let me know.
