Dyke of Il and Ind. 1800's- I'm going NUTS!!!

Does anyone know anything about the Dyke families of lower Il and Ind.? There were some Dyke's in Il in 1840 and 1850 and by 1860 and 1870 most are gone. 2 John Dyke's in Il in 1840 seem to show up in Ind in 1850. I believe they were from France, Eng. or Germany. A David Dyke was married in Il 1850's and gone by 1860. Either died or moved. A Catherine Dike was in Il in 1840 and gone after that. David Dyke married Syntha Riggs 1850's and then a Cintha Dike married a Wm. Robertson in 1857. Would that be the same Cintha who married Dike? People did not always say whether they were a Miss or Mrs. How are the Dyke's of Indiana related to the ones of Illinois? Some of the Il Dyke's were born in Tenn. and Virginia. A Daniel Dykes was born about 1800 and he was only in one or two census's and then gone.
I think some of them changed their name around quite a bit. There was a Daniel or David Dyke living in Jackson co. Il in 1850 or 60 and nearby there was a Mrs. Matilda Dyke. Were they married at one point? Were they related? Who were these people and where did they go? John, Daniel, David, Elizabeth, and Aaron are Dyke names, they appear in my family as well and I can't believe they are not in some way closely related to me. Someone please, Help, before I go entirely NUTS!!! Janice
