Frances, I don’t know if you have made any progress since we were in touch, and I still have not found any info which would lead to potential children of Rachel Eacret Songer; however, I did find that she gave an affidavit when her brother’s widow was applying for pension benefits for her minor child. The affidavit was dated 18 April 1904. She gives her name as “Rachel Songer, aged 78 years, a resident of Mansfield, Piatt County, Illinois,” PO address is Mansfield IL. There are some inaccuracies in parts of her statement, but she does say that she is the aunt of the claimant, and the sister of the claimant’s father, John Eacret, which I believe to be true. She also says that she was at John’s bedside when he died (1893, Mahomet IL). I don’t know if the Piatt Co IL residence info will help you, but thought I would pass it on. Rachel did sign the statement “Rachel Songer” and it appears that it was signed before a Champaign Co IL Notary Public. I also notice that there was a Rachel A Ruark who married a Samuel “Longer” in Vermilion Co IL on 4 Feb 1863, so I suppose she might be another possibility for the Rachael Songer who married Elijah Hocket on 2 Sept 1871 in Vermilion Co IL. That’s just a random thought, since the “L” and “S” were often mis-transcribed. When I have time, I will post more detail in our WorldConnect file.
