I descend from Carroll Eades through his son Barnett, as I find no proof that he had a son William Carroll, born 1788 in Virginia, except in the book by Tate Collins - no census, no deed, no marriage, no anything of proof can I find. Tate Collins made it clear that his mother gave him a lot of the information he published in his book, genealogy requires proof before it can become fact. In Muhlenburg Co. Ky I find all kinds of evidence of Barnett, and his children, so I go for Barnett as the father of William Carroll, born 1818 in Ky, and in the census records following his marriage to Elizabeth Williams. His message on the outside of his 2nd marriage bond, which was in 1863 for his second marriage, Muhlenburg Co. Ky, City of Greenville, Ky. I believe is a statement declaring his parents signed the "Declaration of Allegiance" to America, which was mandatory in some colonies if you were from another country, prior to the Revolutiionary War thus establishing your citizenship. I am sure there are others who know more than I do about this subject. What do you think? Dorothy Hodges
