As I bring no new light to any topic that I can find, I will introduce my mystery to the forum: My 2nd Great-Grandmother Ellen Ead (e) s is first found in the 1850 Census of Pendleton County, KY at age 16 (b KY c1834) with the person I assume is her mother, Francis, 49 (b VA c1801) and assumed siblings, William m 18 (b KY c1832), Caswell m 13 (b KY c1837), and Augusta f 10 (b KY c1840). The next clues to Ellen’s parents comes years later when on an Orange County, IN application for a marriage license in 1911 (age 66), Ellen indicates (as transcribed) that her father’s name was Augustine (Ead (e) s assumed) and her mother’s maiden name was HENDERSON. I have used this information in searches for many years to no avail. The sister’s name Augusta gave some credence to the father’s name, which I have also searched as Augustus to no avail. Recently, I was able to trace Ellen’s brother Caswell to his death and certificate in Campbell Co. KY in 1917. This certificate showed the father’s name as W. C. (Ead (e) s assumed). William Caswell perhaps? Again this new lead has not firmed up an Eads family to pursue. The names Caswell, Augusta, and the less unique William are perpetuated in later generations. There are a couple Eads families in VA/KY with a Peter being the most prominent but I cannot twist or permute any clues I’ve found to date to align with the information I find. Are there any definitive published works on Virginia and Kentucky Ead (e) s families? Facts, hints, clues and suggestions are welcome. Notify Administrator about this message?
