Dear Eadie Researchers, Hi I have a William Tod Eadie (Addie) bn abt 1823 to a George (Todd) Eadie and a Mary (or Margaret) Hogg (Ogg) in Dunfermline Fife, possibly a Hulltown.(unable to find birth cert or marr cert) William Tod md a Mary Russell in 1852 in Airdrie New Monklands She was a widow and had three children at the time. They went on to have six children: George Tod Eadie (1852-54, according to death cert info bn 1856 however 1861 & 71 census in Scotland show him older then the next sister) Mary Tod Eadie,(bn 1855) Margaret Tod Eadie,(bn 1857) Henry Tod Eadie,(bn 1860) James Tod Eadie(bn 1862) and Andrew Tod Eadie(bn 1866) All the men were miners iron or coal including their father William. One went on to own a grocer store in Glasgow, another was a carpenter. SURNAME CHANGES The family used the TOD surname in the 1861 census, then the ADDIE surname in the 1871 census, back to the TODD surname in 1881 census (however one of the illegitimite grandchildren had the surname Eadie bn in 1880) then the EADIE surname in 1891.The oldest son used the names GEORGE (TODD RUSSELL) as his middle names then EADIE as the surname when imm to the US (abt 1878 Pa) ie George T R Eadie. The death cert for William Eadie (1891 after census)uses that surname and has his parents down as Eadie. All subsequent certs of the above family used the surname Eadie or Addie. The rest of the family continue to use the Eadie surname and we are at a loss to explain where the name change came from. I have more dates and info of the children. One moved to NZ. Thanks for your time and consideration Christine McManus Notify Administrator about this message?
