EAGAN / EGAN Family of Bantry Bay, County Cork, Ireland

Looking for an EAGAN/EGAN family with eight or nine brothers, all of whom settled in New York City (except for one -- my ancestor -- who settled in Chicago). We are told that the brothers were somehow involved in the Tammany Hall era.

Our Egans in Chicago came from a well-educated family, from what we know, and there is a legend that the ancient founder of the family was one of the "Wild Geese" who served in the French army. We know that the family came from the Bantry Bay area of Ireland and were horse people. (My ancestor was supposed to have been a stable man for the Lord of Bantry Bay.) Our Chicago Egans raised horses for the Union Army during the Civil War.

If any of this sounds familiar, we would love to hear from you, as we have been separated from our New York cousins for well over 100 years.

Regards,
Susan Egan Wyatt
California
