Ralph, you might have this info by now, but I'll post it here for other researchers too.

James Grandison Eagles, b April 17, 1814, in Black River, NS. Married before 1844 to Elizabeth (Eliza) C. Taylor, born 1819 in NS.

They had 8 children, including your Viola May.

I have James' parents as William Eagles b January 15, 1780 in Horton, Kings Co, NS and Alice Melton, b about 1780 in Cornwallis, Kings Co, NS. They had 8 children.

William's parents were William Eagles and Sarah Strong.
