I see a few John Eagal/Eagle names from Nova Scotia. This is where our John was to have landed. Also, I am trying to locate a book called, "LIST OF THE SETTLERS WHO CAME OUT WITH GOVERNOR CORNWALLIS TO CHEBUCTO, IN JUNE 1749." It is by AKINS, Thomas Beamish. I would PAY for copies of the pages I need. Our local library tried to borrow this book, but it was too fragile to tranport to another library. This is what we have on our John Eagal/Eagle from another family researcher: lived with an Indian woman (Sequoia) Census records 1820 Allegheny Co. 13 children 6boys and 5 girls possibly the father of the later john born between 1758-1770 if so not naturalized -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- Source: Jayne E. Beech: The name has various spellings. The original seems to have been Egel, but was spelled Eagle in the early records from Allegheny City Pa. In the 3rd. generation, one son spelled it Eagle and the other Eagal. The story that has come down through the family is that the first Eagal/Eagle came from France searching for religious freedom. That may be so, but the name is German, not French. He is said to have fought in the Revolutionary War and then married an Indian Princess. They lived n Allegheny City Pa., shortly after 1810 according to census records. John disappears after 1830, I assume he died. There was a woman about the same age as John, and 11 that appear to be children. One son, John D., moved to Centerville - now Slippery Rock - in 1834/35 and died there in 1864. The 1850 census, Allegheny City shows the following Eagle's: Ellen 56 - living with the W.K. Lindsey family; Emily 44 - and her children, Frederick 19, Agustus 11, Albert 4, John H. 33, Margaret H. (wife) 26 -- and the children, Sarah A. 5, John D. 3, Wanetta 1, and with the Philip Wilson family, there was Mary and Margaret Eagle 19 & 17 Notify Administrator about this message?
