Thanks to the folks at Nauvoo and the Knell family in St George Utah... Elias Eagles moved to Mt Pleasant Iowa after Mary left him for Utah. He joined the 14th Regiment of the Iowa Infantry which joined into the Army of Tennessee commanded by Ulysses S Grant. Elias Eagles was killed the first day in the battle of Shilo and it was recorded in a diary by a man named Jessie Jay who witnessed it. My grandpa was a Civil War Hero.
