It's been so long since this question was posted -- I hope Ms. Rudek gets this followup:

I have the following information regarding the Eagles lineage:

The name Eagles is English.

Thomas Eagles, Haberdasher in London 1593
Abrose Eagles, b. 1642, Merchant Tailer in Holborn, London 1666
Thomas Eagles (1746-1812) Collector of Customs at Bristol, England. He had a son, Rev. John Eagles (1783-1855)

The following earlier dates and facts were gathered from the records in Newberry Library, Chicago.

I. William Eagles (1705-1765) married Anna (?). He was a saddler - resided on N. side of Cedar St. His mother's name was Margaret (?). Children: John, William, Alexander & Thomas.

II. Lieutentant Thomas Eagles (-- - 1788) M. Magadalene Bartlett. Served in Revolutionary War as 1st Lt. under Capt. Peter Bartholf "Florida & Warwick" Regiment of the Militia under Col. John Hawthorne. Children: Leander Bartlett, Francis, George, Thomas.

III. Leander Bartlett Eagles (1778-1859) M. Zillah Starkweather & Lucy Prentice. He was a weaver by trade. Born in New York City, died in Ligonier, Indiana. Children: Lucy (Mother Zillah) M. Henry Upson. After the death of his first wife, Leander married Lucy Prentice (1804-1877) in N.Y. (1821). She was the daughter of Nathaniel Prentice who served in the Revolution, and Margaret Heddon of Quaker ancestry from Rehoboth, Mass.

Children of Leander Bartlett Eagles and Lucy Prentice were:

Leander Bartlette Eagles
Nathaniel Prentice Eagles
Zillah Alzina Eagles (Bothwell)
Thomas Manley Eagles
William ----- Eagles
Charles Darwin Eagles
Nelson ----- Eagles

The first four lived to good old age. The three younger died young. Nelson died of starvation in Danville, Virginia military prison during the civil war.

I hope this helps!
