Here is all the information I have. It's taken from a family Bible that my Uncle Lex (Lexie Lee) and his wife, Mamie, had. I copied this down in 1967. C. E. Eaker Borned March 19, 1844 (this is Christopher Edward, my grandfather) E. W. Eaker Borned July 22, 1845 Died November 12, 1871 (I have a note that this is Elizabeth West) M. E. Eaker Borned April 29, 1847 Died July 12, 1884 (I have a note that the E. is for Elizabeth. I don't know how these three are related. Siblings? Cousins?) The maiden name of the mother of Christopher's first two children is Douglas. The children are: Minnie Savannah Eaker b. Jan 30, 1870 (I believe she died in 1971.) Rodney West Eaker b. May 24, 1871 When their mother died, Christopher gave the children to a family named Green in Hickman, Ky. I remember visiting Savannah in the late 1960's who was living alone in the Green house in Hickman. Her skin was amazingly smooth and clear, her mind was sharp, but she couldn't see very well. I was very interested in my grandparents at the time because they all had died before I was born, so I asked her about Christopher. Her response indicated that she was still very bitter about having been abandoned by him. The maiden name of the mother of Christopher's 3rd and 4th children was McDaniel. The children were: William Aubra Eaker b. March 16, 1875 Maud Eaker b. June 21, 1878 Christopher married Nannie Robinson on April 7, 1889. She was born July 18, 1861, and died August 7, 1907. Their children are: Beulah Iris Eaker b. Jan 12, 1890 Essie R. Eaker b. Aug 14, 1891 Lexie Lee Eaker b. June 12, 1893 Senter Eaker b. Oct 8, 1895 Lois Eaker b. Jan 23, 1900 Charlie Powell Eaker b. June 26, 1903 (my dad) According to my dad, at some point Christopher ended up living with his eight youngest children on a houseboat on the White River near Augusta, Arkansas. I suspect this is where they were during the 1910 census. Both Iris and Essie married Augusta men, and my dad lived with Essie for a while after she married. Lex ended up in Beebe, Arkansas, Senter in Memphis, Lois somewhere in Oklahoma, and my dad in Detroit (where I was born), then Tupelo, Arkansas after he retired. Amazingly, my aunts and uncles knew very little about Christopher's family or anything about his life before 1890 or so. So I don't know anything about his parents and siblings. Aunt Iris did get a copy of his service record. He joined the Confederate army on Aug 15, 1862. He was taken prisoner on May 26, 1865 and paroled at Shreveport, LA on June 7, 1865. Please send me a copy of the newspaper article about Christopher's visit home. -Charles Edward Eaker Notify Administrator about this message?
