I am interested mostly in any information on Sarah Jane EKES, especially in a connection (if any) between
Sarah Jane EKES
b. 1832/1835 in NC
married William Walter GREENFIELD on July 27, 1854 Preble Co., OH
and
Alfred EAKES
b. 1834 in OH
married Elizabeth JOHNSON on July 27, 1854 Preble Co., OH
Alfred EAKES is the son of Andrew EAKES. Andrew married Nancy BALLARD, Aug 21,1830, Guilford Co. NC. I can find much information on this family. His family settled in Hancock Co., IN where Andrew died in 1837.
Sarah Jane EKES is my ancestor, but the earliest record I can find for her is the 1850 Census for Gratis twp., Preble Co., OH where she is staying with Oran SNIPES of Guilford Co., NC. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence linking Sarah Jane EKES and Alfred EAKES:
They both married their respective spouses on July 27, 1854 Preble Co., OH
They both appear to have early Guilford Co., NC connections
Sarah’s first daughter is named Nancy Elizabeth - Nancy is Alfred EAKES mother’s name, and Elizabeth is William GREENFIELD mother’s name.
Sarah’s next door neighbor in 1870 is John EARHEART - Alfred’s mother (Nancy) re-married Jacob EARHART after Andrew EAKES’ death.
I see the possibility that Sarah Jane EKES is actually the sister of Alfred EAKES, but would welcome any information on her since I can find no direct evidence.
