Jane: Look at the 1880 census for Herbert, Neshoba Co., Ms. for M. H. Carter, with wife M.H. Carter. The Carters had a daughter that was born about 1861 and was named Mary F. Carter. Living with the Carters was also a W. A. Ekes, age 24, born in Ms. The next family listed on that same page is an Ekes, age 62 or 63, and was born in S. C. (Ezekial?)
This may be William Ekes, son of Ezekial. Mary F. Carter may be his future wife?
If you have access to Ancestry.com.....this page of the census is image 5 of Neshoba Co., Ms. Beat 3. ED 58(page 491 stamped on the upper right of the page).
