The Samuel Aikens who was the bondsman for the 1798 Mecklenburg Co NC marriage of Ann Aikens to John Aikens was most absuredly the Samuel Aikens who was the father of Ann Aikens. There is no known connection between Samuel Aikens who was the father of Ann Aikens and the Samuel Akin b. 1771 NC/SC who married Dorcus Starr. Samuel Aikens was living in Mecklenburg Co NC by 1781 when he bought 200 acres of land deed dated 27 Mar 1781 and is refered to as a weaver: "Mecklenburg Co NC Minutes of the Court of Common Pleas and Quarter Sessions 1780-1800; Transcribed by Herman Ferguson" p. 96.
Ann Aikens was born abt. 1777 in PA.Her father was Samuel Aikens who died by 1840 in Burke Co NC between the ages of 90-100 years and was born in Ireland. We know that Samuel Aiken's second wife was Dicey Huffman and he married her in 1811 in Burke Co NC but not the name of the mother of Ann Aikens.
On the 1860 Red River Co TX Census Ann Aiken age 83 b. PA is living with her son W.B. Aiken age 54 b. NC.W.B. Aiken was born abt. 1806 in Burke Co NC where John and Ann Aiken moved after 1800.On the 1810 Burke Co NC census are John Aiken, Joshua Akin, and Samuel Akins.
John and Ann Aiken moved from NC by 1820 maybe to GA where John probably died.Ann lived for some years in MS before moving with her son W.B. Aiken to Cass Co TX later known as Red River Co TX.
Hope the additional info on Samuel Aikens b. abt. 1740 of Ireland, PA, and NC will be helpful to another Akin researcher.
