I am trying to figure out a Demint family legend:
This is a story of an Indian episode in the early history of Franklin Co. KY. Specifically, the land was about 5 miles from Frankfort, KY on the Versailles pike.Mrs. Shryock said the land was purchased by her grandfather from Ludwig Easterday. In the article, it states that Jared Demint, a boy, was the nephew of Ludwig’s wife, Susannah. Jared left their home one Saturday afternoon to go to Innis Bottom on the Main Elkhorn about 6 miles away. His sister, Mrs. Cook, had recently moved there from Virginia. The author states that this event happened more than a 100 years ago. Captain Grant spent the night at the Easterday home. Mr. William Chinn is mentioned as seeing Indians in the county.
by Leonna Jett ( Mrs. E. D.) Shryock, deceased
Register of the Kentucky Historical Society May 1916, Vol. 14 #41
There were several younger Susannah Demints but the only one that would be close to the correct age would be Jared's sister: Susannah Demint b. 1769 1st married to Jacob SMITH in 1793 in Jefferson Co. KY then to Peter Kerlin in Shelby Co.KY. Could Susannah Martin be Mrs. Susannah Demint MARTIN? Another Martin connection is the Cynthia MARTIN m. their sibling Benjamin DEMINT in 1789 in Jefferson Co. KY. He moved to IL and we lost that line.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
