I know of this line of Ostertags and have contacted the woman who did this research on other members of her family. Her ancestors are mainly Lutherans. My Ostertags are all Catholic, coming from Abtsgmuend and, I believe, before that from Ellwangen just to the north of Abtsgmuend. A major source of Lutheran Ostertags is Taeferrot which is just north of Schwaebische Gmuend, not very far from either of these. I would bet that these branches are probably related and could show this if we could go back far enough. Unfortunately very early records do not exist for most of these places thanks to the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) which caused so much destruction in southern Germany. Maybe someone has tried to make a connection and has records to support one?
