INTERNATIONAL ASPECT
Please consider if it is necessary to refer specifically to this.
Can Annual Meeting be held in any country?
(YES. It will be on line most times, except when we have a resunion and, then, we will have tohave abrief pause in our siege of Arundel (Sussex) or Eaton Hall (Cheshire) so as to conduct the Annual Meeting. I am being a little flip, I know, and I don't mean to be rude. Not at all. This, and all your questions are entirely legitimate. The short answer is that we are planning online meetings in our own chat room. Cool, huh?)
Can archives be purchased or maintained in any country?
(YES, because they will be house on the web site. As for hard copies of items purchased if any, after they are digitized, they will be held -- I think -- at a librry. Joe Cochoit is working on this. We will need a friendly relationship with a librry that will value what we can house with them. But, we will have the material available on-line. Joe: Do you have anything to add to this? Barbara: Same?)
Are there any special banking requirements to remit or receive funds to or from any country?
(This is an international Association and it would be nice to have a single global currency. But, the UN hasn't done that for us yet, so... Welllllllll, maybe. But, again, the short answer is you can pay in any currency. But, if non-Americans want to be really nice to our VP/Secretary-Treasurer, they will convert their Rupels or Rials to dollars and send same to Don Eaton. in U.S. dollars so that his very big job will be just a little bit easier. if not, he will do that when he gets your check/checque/money order in whatever denomination it comes in. Don't send cash.)
OVERSEAS MEMBERS
Can they have postal voting? Proxy voting? Pay dues
electronically?
[No electronic payment of Dues. No credit cards. We are a bunch of "little people" doing a big thing. We have to walk before we win the global grand prix. Voting, however, will be better (and less expensive) than postal. it will be online, in the chat room. As to proxys: Sure, we can set that up, but is it necessary when it can be done on line in a, er, new York (Dublin, Rome, Perth, Rome) minute?]
BORROWING
Should this be prohibited under Article VI?
[I can't imagine that we would, butthis prompts a question: Why?]
[If we are cash poor, just before annual Dues are payable, for example, and we have a chance of a lifetime (Like purchasing the original Odericus manuscript -- hah, hah ) and I was willing to lend half a Rupel to the Association, why should the Association not be able to borrow from me?]
[I see what you mean, however, and maybe this is something you will want to bring up at the first Annual Meeting on the first Saturday of March2002, where you can vote online or send an e-mail proxy vote. Good idea, george. Since it is not prohinbitied, it is allowed. But, I think that we should fix that now.]
I hope the final version/final draft will be available on genforum with a self-explanatory subject heading (although I do find the funny ones entertaining!!)
(The final version will be available at the Eaton Web site.)
Finally, george, if there is any specific language you want in the Eaton Association By Laws, please feel free to send same to me. it's not toolate to improve them. But, we're getting close, so hurry.
One comment. The Eaton Association is not the "Genforum Association." The By Laws are ours and ours along. We should be greatful, however, that genforum has made it possible to post here; I certainly am.I am sure there are many people here who look forward to the day when we Association founders have the site up, our own bulletin board, chat room, archives, newsletter, etc., so that we don't bother them with this "busines" any more.
So, all of you who are not the slightest bit interested in any of this, thank you so verymuch for putting up with it. By January, it will be mostly, if not all, over. You have ben kind to listen.
George, send Association particulars (if there is more)b to me at [email protected]
Rick
