James & Grace, Bucks Co., PA to Davie Co., NC; 1777
I am not researching these people, just entering information from one of my books, Davie County Heritage.I put in a few key words and there was mention of some of these people.I will enter a little of what is printed:
"Thomas L. and Lou Jane Stonestreet Eaton Family - James and Grace Eaton came to the Davie County area from Bucks County, PA about 1777.One son was Peter Eaton (1787-1843) married in 1807 to Tabitha Harbin (1783-1854).They are buried at Eaton Baptist Church Cemetery."
"One of their sons was James Eaton (1824-1906) married in 1850 to Elizabeth Ferebee (1833-1918).James and Elizabeth lived near Eaton's Church and are buried there.Their son, Thomas Lafatette Eaton (1869-1834) married Lou Jane Stonestreet (1873-1943).They are buried at Chestnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. They had five children - Bessie Lee (1892-1967), Frances Alpha (1895-1965), Wade Hampton (1897-1964), Hubert Roosevelt (1904-1981), Walter Carl (1906-1997)."
All(except Frances)had children, which are listed in this book.
Further information on James & Grace in another chapter, which was written by a descendant:
Peter Eaton was probably the most famous of this family; he was a minister of the Gospel. He bought land in Rowan and Surry County with his wife's money. Concerning his brother James -"We have no record that he ever owned any land either in North Carolina or Pennsylvania. He, too, probably lived off some of his wife's money. When James married Grace, she was a widow. She was the second wife of Benjamin Mathias.Benjamin had many children, but none of them selected Grace to be their guardian.Grace petitioned the court for some of her money from the estate in November 1779.By the time the court opened in December sh had married James Eaton.Grace between the years (1822-1826 sent Power of Attorney to Bucks County for nephews to represent her to gain her money and interest from Benjamin Mathias' estate. In 1916 (this is correct) a Dower release was being sought on part of the 100 acres of the land adjudged to John Mathias, son of Benjamin.Grace and James were mentioned in the advertisement 'seeking out heirs.'
"James Eaton cout be described today as a child of the '60s.He evidently did not care for material things. He would 'walk' to either North Carolina or Pennsylvania whenever he decided it was time to go.James would stop whatever he was doing and start on his trek.He depended on the charity of others.sometimes he would work on a person's farm for room and board. He had great dexterity in raking a field of hay or grain. On the last trip home, Thomas Ferebee found him dead beside the road.He was buried at Timber Ridge Graveyard.Grace, we know, was still living in 1824.She probaby resided with her son, Benjamin Eaton.(Submitted by Grace H. Wight)"
There are several chapters in this book on members of the Eaton family.
