trying to trace any records relevant to Bartolo Eccher b. about 1850. He was born in Austria and moved to Guernsey, channel Islands with his French wife Marie Le Carpentier. He died in 1910 and his Guernsey death cert. gives his Parents names as Pierre Eccher and Rose ??? He may have originated from a part of Austria that is now northern Italy. He was a Stone Dresser by trade so may have been a miner or quarryman in his younger days. He founded his own dynastic line in the Channel Islands that is now diminishing as Male descendants are diminishing. The name was anglisied to Eker before WW1 to avoid offspring being conscripted into french forces, although several did join British forces.
