I am one of the many Eckhardts from Gillespie County, Texas. As I understand it, from my father and other relatives, my ancestor (I believe his name was Adam Eckhardt, but I may be skipping a generation, I'd have to check with my parents) came over on the boat to Texas with Prince Frederick (?) of Germany and that group of settlers split into two parties which founded New Braunfels, Texas and Fredericksburg, Texas. So the Eckhardts have been in Gillespie County from the get-go. As a interesting tidbit, it is said that my ancestor was the only bachelor on the wagon train (I belive he ended up marrying a girl from New Braunfels later on.)
