I agree it's good to be skeptical of such things. The crest that we have was handed down from my GGF (Jakob) who emigrated to US in 1882, and supposedly brought an example with him. His son Will was a lithographer in Chicago and did several etchings of the crest, one of which I still have.

I don't have a digital version of it, but I'll see about scanning it soon.
