My great-great grandfather,Charmain Eckhardt (a variant of Karl) immigrated to New Orleans from Neustadt on the Hart river in Bavaria in 1849. I don't know about any connections to a Daniel Eckhardt, but the Neustadt area might be a good starting place. The traditional names for boys in our family are Karl (all variants), Georg (George), Frederick or Frederich, Artur (Arthur), Wilhelm (William), & Josef (Joseph).
