Here's what I have from my family records (Aunt Vangie is Vangie Eckman, wife of Edward Eugene Eckman of Jackson, MS:

From Aunt Vangie's researches:
Aldus Eckman's ancesters came to Pennsylvania from Germany. Either his parents or grandparents were the immigrants. Pronounced OWL-DUS. Albert was born in PA. He came to Missouri and married Julia Anns Welmering (I had Litzel??) who was born in Missouri. Her parents were born in Germany. Aunt V. could not find a birthday for Aldus. They worked in Illinois across the Miss rvr. Son Albert Aldus b. 1875 in Illinios. They had 11 children, 9 lived. Lived in Missouri 1879-1881. Moved to Water Valley, Miss at 311 N. Court St., a beautiful big house, had flowers and a white pickett fence. Julia was 44 yrs in 1900 and was still at N. Court St. Aldus died between 1896 & 1900. Julia took the children still at home and moved to St. Louis MO 1900 or later. Julia lived past 1930. Water Valley in 1900 was largest city in N. MS & was a railroad center. Later years she lived with her daughter Mable in St. Louis. Children: Albert Aldus, Arthur, Eugene, August, Ferol Lee, Mable, Julia, William, Lena Bell.
