Here's what my Aunt Evangelina had to say about Eugene and why I'm confused:
From Aunt Vangie:
Eugene was born in MO, Sept 9, 1881 Friday. He was 17 yrs old when he started working for the railroad as an apprentice machinest, 1898 in Water Valley, Miss. He was working in Memphis TN in 1905 and back to Water Valley (was there in 1907). Moved to McComb, MS in 1910. Eugene married Maud Golda Eldred born Dec 12, 1878 Thursday. She was born either in Gurdon or Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Lena May remembers she used to say "The Eldreds were refuges from Arkansas." Also she said Arkadelphia was God's Country. Maud Golda known as Nanny to her grandchildren. She died suddenly of a heart attack Feb 8 1949 Tues at 71 yrs old.
