Phillip is related to my Edds family, son of Drury Edds (born about 1806/08) and Hannah Bunch (born about 1812), both of Louisa County, VA. Sometime between 1836 and 1841, Drury and family moved from Louisa County and settled in Oldham County, KY. The family lived in Westport. Drury worked as an overseer for the Henshaw family and by 1850 had accumulated $2700 in property (1850 Census, Oldham Co, KY, p 153).
Drury and Hannah had ten children; the eighth child was Charlie M. Edds (1847-1932), my g-g-grandfather, and the ninth was Louis Phillip Edds. Drury died of cholera in Louisville, KY, on 8 October 1852; his will was dated 4 September 1850 and was probated in October 1853. The will names only his wife Hannah and their youngest son at the time the will was written, Louis Phillip, but alludes to other children in the family. Their last child, Jefferson Powell, was born after the will was written but before Drury died. Hannah remarried J.J. Crowley, age 37, of London, England, on 16 October 1856. She died 5 September 1886.
Louis Phillip Edds was born 30 April 1849 in KY. Sometimes called "Lewis," he listed his occupation as a blacksmith and later as a farm laborer. He married Lou Eubanks of Marion County, KY, on 2 January 1874; she died on 17 December 1875 in Oldham County, with the cause of death listed as heart disease. Louis remarried Malissa Patterson, but I don't know when. (Sources: Edds-Bunch family Bible record; 1850 Census, Oldham County, KY (p 153); 1870 Census, Oldham County, KY (p 116); 1880 Census, Oldham County, KY (Vol 24, ED 153, Sheet 10); BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, AND DEATHS IN OLDHAM COUNTY, KY, taken from LDS microfilm roll ST 000103; Edds-Bunch family Bible record lists Lou's date of death as 8 December 1875.
Louis and Lou had two children: Henry Edds, born 13 June 1874 and died 26 October 1874, both in Oldham County; and a male son, stillborn, 10 December 1875. (Source: BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, AND DEATHS IN OLDHAM COUNTY, KY, taken from LDS microfilm roll ST 000103; dates confirmed in Edds-Bunch family Bible record.) Louis and Malissa also had two children: Agnes Edds and Hollie C. Edds. (Source: 1900 Census, Oldham County, KY)
Hope this helps with the general background. Let me know if you see any connection with the names listed here. I don't have the record of him in 1880 (I apparently overlooked his use of "Phillip" rather than "Lewis"/"Louis"), so I'm interested to know the family (your g-grandparents) with whom he was living at the time (apparently between marriages). John
