I am searching for the source documents for this marriage - marriage Bedford Co., VA July 23, 1823. I have been unable to find them at Ancestry.com or online, although I have seen several postings with that date. These people were the mother and father of Nancy Edens who married William H. Halley and went from Kanawha, WVA to Henry County, MO. Nancy Edens died in October of 1860 (Henry Co., MO) and is not listed on the 1860 census for Henry County, MO, but Mary Edens is, age 63. In 1870, Mary Edens, age 73, is living with her granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Halley Breedon. Also living with the family is her grandson Alexander Bradford Halley. I cannot locate her death information, but I know she must have died in and/or around Taney Co., MO where she was last living.
The census index for William H. Halley (not "A", nor Holly) is in error and lists him as William W. Hally. His name is clearly William H. Halley because I have a picture of his tombstone that clearly spells his name as William "H" Halley, born March 14, 1812 and died October 25, 1864 in Henry County. He is buried at Weston, Platte Co., MO in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. The 1860 census lists all his and Nancy's children. All the children stayed in Missouri with the exception of John Wesley Halley and Jesse James Halley who went to Ouachita and Union Parishes, Louisiana. J. W. Halley married two women named Sarah: Sarah A. Rice in Henry County, MO, who died before 1870 and 2) Sarah Melissa Kolb, daughter of Abel Kolb and Mary Williamson of Pike Co., AL. Jesse married her sister, Martha A. Kolb. (John W. Halley's daughter, Martha Melissa Halley married my great grandfather, Albert Etheridge).
I have seen this marriage date several times for James Eden and Mary (unknown, but also believed to be Unk, a surname), but I have never seen anyone post a source for it.
