Thanks for your message.Sorry I have been so long in replying but I have been busy pursuing another branch of my family, the Redshaws.
It is very likely that your branch and mine could be linked.It has been noticeable to me that families split into sub-groups for various reasons (probably poor communications, disputes, and all other imaginable circumstances!) and drifted apart.If no-one kept up contact, memory of the parents siblings faded.
I have concentrated on the branch that I can definitely trace as my own by talking to surviving family members and fortunate acquisition of some documents. I have got back now to James Edmiston b circa 1824 married to Ann Stobie (Stobo/Stobie being a famous name in Canada in 1757 too I think, but not to the French). Even so there was a split in the early 1900's due to personality clashes!
I am going to wage another campaign in the Glasgow area soon to try to link to other branches. If I come across your names I shall let you know.
