Joseph,
As far as I can tell, your great grandfather, Lewis Monroe Edney, was the first with the name of Monroe. The father of Lewis was Marvil Mills Edney, the son of Asa Edney of Edneyville, NC. Asa was the son of Samuel Edney of Pasquotank Co., NC and Samuel was the son of Robert Edney of Pasquotank. Your grandfather was born in Magnet, Atchison Co., MO.
Besides the Methodist preachers in your family, there was Levin Edney in TN and his brother Samuel Edney in Edneyville, NC. This Samuel was the brother of Asa Edney.
