Do the Edneys in Dyer Co seem to be associated in any way with the Marchant family? Both families came from South Mills, Camden Co. NC. James P. Marchant wrote letters to his "brother" Ira Pearce in Camden Co. in the 1840s and 50s. He is recorded in many deeds in Camden Co before that time. He first bought land in 1810. In 1825 he was on the commitee to devide the land of John Edney between his hairs. About a year later he is married to Mary (Polly) Edney who was one of the hairs of John Edney. She was probably his second wife. His three older children were already grown and married by the late 40s. She was probably the mother of Peter. In one of his letters James P. Marchant mentions being disapointed in Samuel Edney. He also mentions Nathan Wilkins in one of his letters. In the division of the property of John Edney one of the hairs is Charlotte, the wife of Nathan Wilkins. Other heirs are Chloe Edney, Newton Edney, Samuel H. Edney, John W. Edney and my ansestor Sarah, the wife of John Thomas Old.
