Dorothy & Melvin ~

I've also got an Edney/Jones connection in my line that I'd like to unravel. Seems too much of a coincidence, those names repeatedly appearing together, unless all are related! Here's what I know:

My greatx3 grandpa was a Samuel Jones, born in the UK or Wales, who eloped to America with Love Edney, daughter of Sir Johnathan Edney. I gather both were very young, and the match was not approved. As I understand it, Love was her father's only remaining child, her brother having run away to sea and been lost.

Samuel and Love Edney Jones apparently ended up somewhere in North Carolina, where Samuel died ca. 1823 and Love in 1821. They had at least one child, my great-great grandpa James Smith Jones, born 16 Nov. 1816 in NC.

James S. left the Great Dismal Swamp area as a teenager, hiking into the Midwest -- where he met and married farmer's daughter Mary Ann Hess. James S. lived to 78, dying in 1895 in Terre Haute Indiana. Mary Ann Hess, his first wife, was a young widow with at least 5 kids when they married.

After she died, James S. married again, to Mary ("Polly") Lee -- who, being a widow too, already had several kids. James S. Jones and Mary Lee had at least 5 more kids, and by the time my great grandpa Thomas Drake Jones came along in 1875 there were 22 offspring in the family! Needless to say, I have maaannnnny Jones kin as a result:)

Going thru old notes today, I came across mention of yet another Edney/Jones connection -- with Drake thrown in for good measure. I have no idea if they're related to my Tom Drake Jones, but here's the info anyway:

Joseph Edney Jones (B. ?, d. 1864) married first: Sarah Hess, having children John Paul JOnes, Mary Jones, and Melissa Jones. His second wife was Susan Drake. His third wife was Sarah HAll -- and they had sons Joseph Warren Jones and James Monroe Jones and a daughter who died at birth. I'd guess all were from the Terre Haute IN area, as Joseph Edney Jones was the tax assessor there at one time.

Let me know if you guys see any connections with your info!
