In Reply to: Re: HELP - My mystery SAMUEL EDNEY by Martha Ann of 602

Hi, Martha Ann. Thanks for replying. The following is is all that I know about the children of Samuel Edney and his wife Amelia (Emily, Milly, Mary?) Spence. There may have been other children, and there is a ten year gap between the two oldest and the two youngest, indicating perhaps that the two oldest were not hers????

1. B. Joseph N. Edney - Born ca 1838 North Carolina (or Virginia?); Married 18 Nov 1858 in Dent County, Missouri to Martha J. Smith; Died by 1865 (probate August 1867) Dent Co., Missouri. His wife married 2) Samuel Samples.

2. James Edney - Born ca 1839 North Carolina (or Virginia?).

3. Alfred L. Edney - Born May 1847 Missouri; Married 13 Jan 1896(?) Dent co., Missouri to Elizabeth R. Stiles. I think this date is incorrect as they appear to have already been married by 1872 when they sold land as husband and wife.

4. Mary Jane Edney - Born 4 Jan 1848 Salem, Dent Co., MO; married 21 May 1866 Salem, Dent Co., MO to Brittin Capril Smith; died 13 Dec 1946 Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas; Buried Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas.

Dent Co., MO was created from Crawford Co, MO. The only thing that I could find on the 1850 Missouri Census for the Edneys was:

Crawford Co., MO,
#420 M. Edney 38 Female Widow born Virignia
IT? J. Edney 14 Male born Virginia
James Edney 12 Male born Virginia
A. Edney 3 male born Missouri.

The age and place of birth for Amelia is incorrect (at least from later census). Also, daughter Mary Jane was not listed - why not?
