Thanks for your details. I actually live on the Isle of Wight and worship at St Marys Carisbrooke where John and Mary were married. (If you want a photo and details of the church let me know) Pittis is an old island name and there are still many generations here. I have a photocopy of part of the history of the Pittis family. Which child of Robert Jewell are you descended from ?

I have looked in my records and see that the following baptisms took place at Portsea

Children of William and Sarah
Charles baptised 20th Feb 1791
Robert baptised 20th March 1792
Ann baptised 25th August 1797
Sarah baptised 4th September 1785
Sarah baptised 17th August 1788
(presumably the first Sarah must have died )

There is no mention of Sarah's maiden name there but l think that this must have been the family. When l am next over in Portsmouth l will investigate further and see if l can find any other details about the Edneys or the Jewells.
