The original Robert Edney first shows up in the records about 1725. Most of the Indians had already left here by then. Some of the Edney's could have married Indians after they went west to the western part of NC or to TN. I think the first to leave left about 1790 and some may have left as late as 1850. Edney appears to be an English name and northeastern NC was settled mainly by the English. Many of them came to NC from the Norfolk, Va area and others from Maryland or New England. Some came directly from England.
