Kay, I didn't mean to post BOTH those other messages. I posted once, and when I didn't see it come up, I thought I had forgotten to click, and I posted again.
Are you interested in information about John Edney? He was married to my grandmother's sister, and so I know a little bit about him. His wife was named Susie A. Whitten. She was born in South Carolina and moved to Birmingham as a child. She and John has six children. Lola Edney was married to Garret Coyle, and had one son, Garret Coyle, Jr., who was born 4/3/1924 in Alabama and died 9/5/1996 in Florida. Margaret Edney was married to George E. Parr. Irene Edney was married to Keelis (not certain of the spelling) (C. K.) Thompson. Sarah Edney was married to E. G. Compton. Morris Edney may never have married. I am not sure, but he did at one time play baseball in the major leagues. There was a son, Richard, who died as a child, and is buried with my grandmother and grandfather in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. And yes, it was Powderly (and its nextdoor neighbor, Germania Park) in which these Edneys grew up. They are both areas of western Birmingham.
