From "North Carolina Troops, 1861-1865: A Roster", vol. VII, compiled by Weymouth T. Jordan, Jr., published 1979 by NC Division of Archives and History, Raleigh NC:
p. 357
Company A, 25th Regiment N.C. Troops (infantry).
"This company, known as 'Edney Greys,' was raised in Henderson County and was enlisted at Edneyville on May 15, 1861. It was then mustered into state service and assigned to this regiment as Company A. After joining the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the war period is reported as a part of the regimental history."
Edney, Balis M.
Resided in Henderson County where he enlisted at age 49. Appointed Captain on May 15, 1861. Present or accounted for until he declined to stand for reelection as Captain of the company on or about May 10, 1862.

Calvin Edney, George N. Edney, Henry C. Edney, James H. Edney, John O. Edney, Joseph L. Edney, Lewis M. Edney, Marvel F. Edney, Thomas A. Edney, and possibly G. P. Edney.
