That is very interesting. She could have been an Aunt to our Robert Edney. Can you check Virginia records for the years up to 1750 and see if you can find anyone at all with Edney for a last name? Any kind of record might have a clue. Wills and marriage records are obvious but deeds often tell of relationships too.
Many of the people who settled in Pasquotank Co. NC as Robert Edney did came from Virginia, especially Princess Anne and Norfolk Counties. Quite a few came from Maryland in the early 1700s.
