The earliest known Edney in what is now the United States was Robert Edney who was married to Anne Rencher. They lived in the part of Pasquotank Co. NC that is now Camden Co. in the 1720s. They are the grandparents of Samuel and Asa Edney who settled Edneyville in the western part of NC. They had many other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of them moved west later. We don't know where Robert Edney came from but there were Edneys in England. There was also at least one Edney in Barbadoes.
