Books rarely include us but I have seen it given as of Celtic origin - the son of
Idonia (some nicely mythic Welsh beauty no doubt). This would seem to relate it to Sidonie in French etc. I'm afraid I can't remember the source for this romantic but incomplete story but now I have discovered this site, I'll work on it.
