Which Samuel and which Newton Rencher? Robert, the first Edney in NC had a son Samuel and a son Newton Rencher. Samuel had a son Samuel and a son Newton. Newton Rencher had a son Newton Rencher but no Samuel. Newton Rencher Sr also had a son Robert who had a son Newton R. but no Samuel, and a son John who had a son Newton and a son Samuel. That takes us into the early 1800s. I don't have any marriage or children for Newton Rencher Jr. He is probably one of the ones that went west. I would love to know his children. I am a decendent of John and his daughter Sarah. I live in South Mills on land that was in the Edney family. Edney Creek is at the back of my property.
There was an old house that was torn down in 1970 that my grandfather told me was built by Robert Edney. There are two possible Robert Edneys that could have built it. It could have been built by the first Robert Edney or it could have been built by his grandson. Granddaddy said that Robert Edney built three houses for his three sons. The first Robert Edney had two sons and three daughters. His grandson had two sons and six daughters. One of the houses was on Horseshoe Road where a lot of Burnhams live. The one torn down in 1970 and the third house were on Muddy Road. I never saw The House at the Gate. The Old Place was put together with wood pegs and hand made nails. I have three of the pegs as some of the nails. I recently bought the property where the Old Place was.
There was an Anne Edney who married a Burnham. My information shows that Ann as the daughter of Samuel Edney Sr. I don't have any husband for Anne the daughter of Robert. Because of dates for Anne in some of the Burnham information I think Anne who married the Burnham was the daughter of Robert and sister to Samuel. Does any one else have an opinion?
I have Robert's daughter Elizabeth married to a Cartwright and someone said they thought that Ahonon was also married to a Cartwright. There are some Cartwrights trying to find where their ansestors came from and among their earliest are a Levin Edna Cartwright and a Newton R. Cartwright and a Reddick Cartwright. I don't know of any Riddicks in the Edney family but there are some in the general area. I am wondering if these could be the decendents of Robert's daughters. Does anyone have any clues?
